Many see eBay as a marketplace to sell their products, and fail to see the advertising and marketing value of posting products on eBay. By listing your products on eBay you can generate interest in the product, and subsequently for your site.

This works specially well if you have products on your website that are exclusively yours. For example, you sell a vitamin D supplement under your own proprietary brand. When you sell on eBay, list it using the most generic words possible in the title. You should also include keywords within the description of the product that are generic and likely to be used by buyers seeking similar products. This marketing strategy will attract people searching for similar products and if they view your product, you might not only make a sale but you will also introduce your product and brand to the potential consumer. Since eBay is an “authoritative” marketplace with an established reputation, your product gains credibility as nationally sold products. When I use the word authoritative, I refer to the credibility in the market that eBay has earned.

Now you ask, how do I get traffic to my web site from my listing in eBay? Well it’s simple. eBay policy allows you to include a link in your listing that provides additional information on the product. eBay is somewhat strict about you not including links that sell the products on other sites, so make sure that the page that the link is pointing to is an informative page and not a sales page.

Another way to market your website on eBay is to create a About Me page. eBay encourages sellers to create pages that inform potential buyers about them. In this page you can include links to your website as well as information about how many years you have been in business, your background and even marketing text about your products. While this page gets substantially less online traffic than the actual product listings, it will expose your site and products to many potential buyers.

Don’t think of the eBay listing fees as an expense, but rather think of eBay as a marketing tool and the expense as an investment in marketing your website. Even if you sell the product and lose money as a result of eBay listing and seller fees, credit card processing or Paypal fee, and shipping charges, you will gain a tremendous amount of potential new buyers for your website. In turn, if you sell good products and offer good service, they will send you additional traffic. Before you know it, you have a real business yielding profits.
